If you’re a designer/maker and you don’t know about Paperfest London, then please bookmark your calendars for 2016! Till then behold as I step you into the spellbinding light that is Paperfest.
Behind the inspirational event are the two lovelies Abigail Warner and Lucy Ledger. It’s designed to motivate and inspire designer/makers at all stages of their business with advice, tips and eyefuls of visual stimulation! Both are designer/makers in their own right and founders of PaperGirls, an initiative set up to help startup paper stationery brands get started.
The What and the How:
The day itself can’t be put into words, there was a kinetic energy in the room. Everyone was super-friendly and open to swapping ideas, tips and business cards. None more so than the guys at print company Foil Co. They were kind enough to share advice and referrals on local London based printers. They even extended the offer of test prints (music to the ears of any paper stationery brand is it not!).
And then the speakers! They were AMAZEBALLS, Cath Kidston (who I had a totally non fan girl bonding moment with in the loos!!), David Hicks (Really Good Co), photographer Emily Quinton, Heal’s Design Manager Kirsty White and so many more. There were also clinics by the likes of notonthehighstreet and Clarion events (the corporate behind Top Drawer, Pulse trade shows), cutesy vendors like Comeuppance and Origamiest hanging out in the Wonder room and an even cutesier lunch spread. Plus the icing on the cake, the venue! To walk into a Paperfest venue is to be transported to a magical fairy tale of a place where every corner is full of optical wonder and beauty, all made of paper.
Enough with the words, I now leave you with my captures of the day…..
